Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Kairuruku - Research Assistant to join Te Kura Waihanga - School of Architecture on an 8-month fixed-term contract. This is a full-time role, but we may consider a part-time role for an applicant with the required experience.

The successful candidate will provide research assistance to the Pūkenga - Lecturer in Architectural Science and Sustainable Systems Design for research work exploring life cycle assessment methods by assisting with the performance of the following tasks.

Key responsibilities:

  • Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) modelling in OpenLCA for various products, materials, and impact assessment methods.
  • Preparing Iterative LCA modelling reports for high carbon life cycle stages.
  • Carrying out a comparative review of impact assessment methods as directed.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

You will:

  • Have a passion or an interest in demonstrating sustainable measurement and how to effect low-impact solutions.
  • Have a Bachelor of Social and Environmental Sustainability or equivalent.
  • High level of familiarity with, and understanding of, Environmental Product Declarations (EPD).
  • Ideally have some experience producing Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) reports.
  • Ideally be currently enrolled in a PhD exploring a similar study area.

Key requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to get things done, to use own initiative and work out how to make things work.
  • Effective and efficient organisational skills and time management.
  • High level of expertise in preparing technical reports and completing academic or industry research.
  • Proven experience working with open-source software for sustainability and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
  • Demonstrated ability in carrying out life cycle assessments in OpenLCA.
